Who we are
Play Ode is a radio and podcast streaming app from [Company legal name, e.g. Ode Audio, LLC] (“Ode Audio,” “we” or “us”). This policy covers the playode.com website and the Play Ode apps for iPhone and Android.
We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t use it for targeted advertising.
On playode.com
You can use playode.com without an account. The website asks for your name, email or phone number only if you sign up for a Lifted invite. It does collect some information automatically:
Vercel Web Analytics
Our host, Vercel, counts page views and the website events listed below so we know which pages people visit and where they came from (the referring site). It records the page, the referrer, and your browser, operating system, device type and country. It doesn’t use cookies. See Vercel’s Web Analytics privacy notes.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors move through the site and how many go on to get the app. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser and receives the pages you view, the events below, your browser and device type, and an approximate location based on your IP address. You can block these cookies in your browser settings or install Google’s opt-out browser add-on. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Website events
Both analytics services receive the same short list of events:
- clicks on the App Store and Google Play buttons, with which button on the page was clicked;
- starting a live radio preview, how many seconds it played, and whether the stream failed;
- clicks on “Get the invite” for Lifted events.
These events don’t include your name, email, phone number or other contact details.
App store links
Our App Store and Google Play links carry a short tag that says which button on playode.com was clicked (for example, “footer”). Apple and Google use it to report how many installs came from our website. The tag doesn’t identify you. Once you’re in a store, Apple’s or Google’s privacy policy applies.
Live radio previews
Nothing plays until you press play. When you do, your browser connects directly to the station’s streaming server, which receives your IP address and browser details like any website you visit.
Server logs
Like most websites, our hosting provider processes technical request data, such as your IP address and browser type, to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse.
Lifted invite sign-ups
If you ask for a Lifted invite, we receive the name, email address and phone number you enter, and which page you signed up from. We store them on our own servers, only the Play Ode team can see them, and we use them only to invite you to Lifted events. Signing up again with the same email updates your details rather than adding a second entry.
Some links take you to services run by others, such as the app stores. Their privacy policies apply there.
In the Play Ode app
Your account
To create an account and sign in, you can use:
- your phone number. We send a one-time code by text message through our messaging provider, Twilio. Message and data rates may apply;
- Sign in with Apple or Google. We receive an account identifier from Apple or Google and the email address they share with us (Apple lets you hide your real address);
- [an email address and password, for accounts created that way: confirm this option is still offered].
Your profile
You can add your name, email address, profile photo, city, state and gender. [Confirm which fields are optional and what each is used for.] The app asks for access to your photos only when you choose a profile picture, and only uploads the photo you pick.
What you listen to
The app records which stations, podcasts and episodes you open and play, and for how long, to measure what listeners enjoy and to improve the app. Your “recently played” list is stored on your device. To show what’s playing, the app fetches song details from the station’s streaming or metadata provider, and the audio itself streams from the station’s servers.
App analytics
We use Google’s Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used. It receives the screens you view and the listening events above, your device model, operating system, app version and approximate location, an app-instance identifier, and our internal ID for your account. It never receives your phone number, email or name. We’ve turned off the advertising identifier: the app doesn’t collect Apple’s IDFA or Google’s Advertising ID, and it doesn’t track you across other companies’ apps or websites. We also use Firebase Remote Config to change app settings without an update.
Notifications
You can turn push notifications on or off in the app’s account settings. [Confirm whether push notifications are sent today and which service sends them.]
When you contact us
If you send us a message or an account deletion request from the app, we receive your name, email address and message.
How we use information
We use the information above to:
- create your account, sign you in and keep it secure;
- stream radio and podcasts and remember your settings;
- understand which stations, shows, pages and features people use, so we can improve them;
- measure how well playode.com brings in new listeners;
- send Lifted invites to people who signed up for them;
- reply to your messages and handle requests about your data;
- prevent abuse and meet our legal obligations.
We send you service messages, such as sign-in codes. [Confirm whether Ode Audio sends marketing emails or texts, and how people opt in.]
How long we keep it
We keep account information while your account is open and delete it after you ask us to close your account, except where we have to keep records by law. Analytics data is kept for [Google Analytics retention period, e.g. 14 months]. [Confirm retention periods for account data, server logs and support messages.] Lifted sign-ups are kept until you ask us to remove them. [Confirm whether sign-ups are cleared after each edition.]
Your choices and rights
- Update your profile at any time in the app’s account settings.
- Delete your account by sending a deletion request from the app’s account settings or by emailing [Privacy contact email]. We respond within [30 days].
- Remove a Lifted sign-up by emailing [Privacy contact email].
- Ask what we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, by emailing [Privacy contact email].
- Turn off website analytics cookies with your browser settings or Google’s opt-out add-on.
- Turn off push notifications in the app or in your phone’s settings.
[Confirm whether any state privacy laws (such as California’s) or EU/UK law apply, and add the rights and request process they require.]
Children
Play Ode isn’t directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, email [Privacy contact email] and we’ll delete it.
Security
The website and app send information over encrypted (HTTPS) connections, and only people who need account information to do their jobs can access it. No system is perfectly secure, so we can’t guarantee the security of your information.
Ode Audio is based in the United States, and your information is stored and processed there.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll post the new version here and update the effective date. If a change significantly affects how we use your personal information, we’ll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
